Bio:

Yan Zixin (b. 1995, Chengdu) is a Chinese artist and PhD candidate based in Leeds, UK. She is currently undertaking practice-based research at the School of Design, University of Leeds. Her work explores mother–daughter relationships, intergenerational trauma, and the structural and emotional pressures of Chinese patriarchal family life through video, installation, and printmaking. Drawing on autobiography, the female body, and fragmented domestic objects, she examines how gendered power is enforced, negotiated, and transmitted within the domestic sphere. Her doctoral research also considers traumatic representation in Chinese feminist art, with particular attention to the legacy of women artists working in the aftermath of the Cultural Revolution and the second wave of feminism. She holds an MFA in Fine Art from Goldsmiths, University of London (2023) and a BA in Fine Art Printmaking from Sichuan Fine Arts Institute (2018).
